There is a culture of over-coming that this world doesn't know about. You can't identify this team by their nationality, color, accent, age, or present financial status. They are in the world, but not of the world. Here's the thing that may shock you. Being a Christian does not necessarily put you in this category. What? Are you kidding me!?
You can have Jesus in your heart, and receive forgiveness for your sin, but that doesn't make you an automatic overcomer. There are Christians who remain ignorant of the winning life God has called them to. Every day they struggle with thoughts that overpower them, even before they walk out the door in the morning. I know this to be true because I was once one of those 'believers.'
There is a simple key to moving from a culture of unbelief, to one of overcoming. It requires repentance. Now don't get your knickers in a knot! Repentance is not an ugly word. It simply means to have a complete change of mind and amend your ways. If you consistently put the wrong PIN number in the ATM you get no results, you fix the problem by repenting. You get the correct number and then enter it for the win.
The Lord gave us a simple key to help get the code right. In Matthew 6:31 Jesus says, "Therefore take no thought, by saying ...". We all hear negative thoughts that run unwelcome through our minds. "What about this?" and "What if this terrible thing happens?" I use to hear very negative things like, "You'll never be good enough" and "Don't even bother trying because you're going to fail anyway!" That's pretty negative stuff to deal with when you're called to be overcoming.
I was doing the exact opposite of Matthew 6:31. I was actually taking those garbage thoughts by saying them. You see, thoughts cannot be birthed into your life if you refuse to speak them. You can take it to a victorious level by not just refusing to speak death, but by remembering the Kingdom thoughts of God's Word and speaking life. That's what I do now. If I hear, "You'll never be good enough", I let it fall dead and counter by saying, "I'm the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!" And then I act like there's a party going on. Yeah!
Yes, I went from suffering suicidal thoughts and feelings, to living as part of this over coming culture. How? I decided what to take and what not to take. "Won't prayer just fix that?" The Word says you must put off your former words (Ephesians 4:22) and have your mind renewed. Nothing transforms like speaking the Word of Truth.
Jesus, I belong to Your overcoming culture! It starts now. I will no longer take thought by saying just anything that crosses my mind. I say no to fear, worry, and anxiety. My mouth is dedicated to speaking life, hope, and love. I am blessed. I am strong. I am an overcomer in Jesus' Name!
